About Studio Theatre Perth

Studio Theatre Perth is a community-focused performing arts venue located in Perth, Ontario, offering a diverse program of live theatre, music, film screenings, and cultural events throughout the year. As a long-standing local institution, the theatre plays an important role in supporting arts, culture, and community engagement in the region.

With a strong reliance on its website to promote upcoming shows, share news, and support ticket sales, Studio Theatre Perth required a digital presence that was easy to manage, accessible to all audiences, and capable of showcasing its programming in a clear and engaging way. A well-structured, user-friendly website was essential to support audience growth, improve discoverability, and streamline ongoing content updates.

About the Project

Studio Theatre Perth engaged Fringe Media to modernize and optimize their website to better support audience engagement, accessibility, and day-to-day content management. While the theatre had a strong community presence and compelling programming, the existing website was outdated, difficult to maintain, and not fully aligned with current accessibility or usability best practices.

Rather than rebuilding unnecessarily, the project focused on strengthening the site’s foundation—improving structure, usability, and performance while introducing a more modern, accessible design. The goal was to create a flexible, easy-to-manage platform that could support ongoing programming updates, ticket promotion, and long-term audience growth.

Fringe Media's Approach

Fringe Media approached this project with a focus on clarity, accessibility, and long-term sustainability. Rather than pursuing a surface-level redesign, we began by reviewing the existing site to understand where usability, accessibility, and structural issues were limiting both audience experience and internal workflows.

Working closely with the Studio Theatre Perth team, we prioritized practical improvements that would deliver immediate value while creating a flexible foundation for future growth. Each decision was guided by the theatre’s operational needs, audience diversity, and the importance of maintaining an easy-to-manage platform.

Improving Usability and Accessibility

We evaluated the existing user experience and accessibility barriers, addressing issues related to contrast, typography, layout, and navigation to ensure the site was inclusive, intuitive, and usable across devices and audiences.

Modernizing the Visual Design

We refreshed the site’s design to create a more contemporary, engaging experience while respecting the theatre’s identity—introducing clearer layouts, stronger visual hierarchy, and improved presentation of shows and news.

Simplifying Content Management

We restructured how content such as shows and announcements were created and displayed, enabling automated homepage sections and giving the team greater control over updates without added technical complexity.

Strengthening Technical Foundations

We addressed underlying technical and performance considerations, implementing SEO best practices and platform improvements to support discoverability, stability, and long-term scalability.
